Reclaim, Exclaim

Skateboarding: a process of converting or reclaiming the artifacts of industrial culture to manufacture new forms of sport-art-body movement, in a fashion similar to what we have seen from other elements of postmodern hip hop culture. Urban terrains of asphault, concrete and steel, as well as empty suburban swimming pools provided skating's original "natural" sportscape, from which the current commodified form of the sport arises, and in which street skating still finds its aesthetic form.
